Early this morning, Helping Hands Produce at Davis Ranch hosted a group of Folsom Cordova high school students who gleaned fresh produce from its fields. Helping Hands donated this fresh, nutritious food to us, something it's been doing for three years now, and we are very grateful for this bounty.
Helping Hands Produce teaches the kids about farming in the slough, it's geography, history, challenges. Then the kids get a turn in the fields, gleaning the beautiful produce that remains after harvest. Foodlink will deliver the red and green peppers, melons and watermelons the kids picked to food banks throughout the State. The food banks will supplement it with prepared and canned foods and to feed California's hungry.
The young man in this photo had just filled his first produce box full of beautiful red peppers.
