You can make "stamping out hunger" more than just a slogan.
It was over fifty years ago, in 1963, when the United States issued the "Food for Peace" stamp as a call to "Freedom from Hunger" worldwide.
Addressing the World Food Congress that same year, President John F. Kennedy said:
“We have the means, we have the capacity, to wipe hunger and poverty from the face of the Earth in our lifetime. We need only the will.”
Today, hunger and poverty are epidemic. According to the United States Department of Agriculture as of 2013 in America:
- 14.3% of all households in the United States are food-insecure.
- 16 million children live in food-insecure households.
- Food insecurity was highest for households located in principal cities of metropolitan areas (16.7 percent).
- Food insecurity is higher in California than the average nationwide.
This is a call to please exercise your will by taking one or more of these five actions. Thank you.
